The two charities, which were chosen as the nominated charities of the year, touched the lives of two members of the James Burrell team.
The sum was raised via various fundraising events throughout the year, including the Great North Run, charity walks, prize draws, a coffee morning, collecting donations from fundraising buckets in all of their 11 branches and finished the year off with a Christmas jumper day.
All money raised will be shared equally between both charities. The Brittle Bone Society provides support for people affected by the rare, and painful bone condition Osteogenesis Imperfecta. It provides specialist advice, support and equipment to people with the condition, their families and carers, medical and other professionals.
The remaining 50% will go to Tiny Lives, a charitable trust that helps to care for 800+ premature and sick newborn babies and their families each year. It supports the Newcastle Neonatal Service at Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary that cares for babies from across the North East and Cumbria.
We help a number of community projects - including charities on an annual basis. As a trusted independent builders' merchant with a 145-year legacy across the North East and Yorkshire, we believe that its right to give back to the communities we operate in.
Kelly Brennan, Marketing Manager, said: “We are enormously proud of the James Burrell team, it has gone above and beyond to fundraise and support such great charities. It’s vital that charities like this exist and continue to offer these invaluable services. Thank you to our customers and suppliers who supported and donated to some truly worthy causes. We are delighted to have raised more than £3,600 for both charities and are now looking forward to our next challenge.”
