Have you recently had your garden landscaped for the summer? Introduced some paving stones or patio and wondering how to keep them looking as good as new for Summer 2025? Well, we're here to tell you exactly how you can do that, making sure your investment lasts for years to come. All patios need a bit of TLC to keep them looking their best, but it doesn't need to be the strenuous hard work you think it might be.
Simple hosing
Let's get down to the basics, with a simple hosing down with water and a good scrub with a hard bristle brush. Sometimes this is all that's needed on a regular basis to keep the stones looking new and avoiding the dreaded weeds that can grow between the stones. Keeping on top of this throughout the seasons will give your patio a good refresh every time.
Sealing your patio
Protecting your patio from the elements is really important. You want to avoid any sort of moisture seeping in and damaging the stone, this is where the sealing plays an integral part to the process. This is particularly important when we come to the winter months which often bring a top layer of frost over the stones. Make sure you correctly read the label though, as some sealants may be too strong for the effect you desire and cause more harm than good.
There are many pros to sealing your patio including preserving the colour of the paving, preventing weathering and making cleaning stains easier.
Jet washing
Jet washing is a good way to brighten up the stones after a bit of weathering. It's normally a good idea to start with a good jet wash in the spring after a long, damp winter. Just be careful not to use too much power, as a strong jet wash can sometimes damage the paving slabs or sometimes with paving which has been down for a few years, it can damage the pointing. Meaning an extra job of repointing!
Frequent weeding
No matter how hard you try, weeds will always find a way to grow, but it's important to try and curb the spread fruther by frequent weeding. Especially throughout the summer when the weather is optimal for growth. It's even more important if you have damaged mortar or wide spaces between the stones. We suggest either a standard weed killer or making sure the weeds are pulled out from the root.
